Prometheus Purchases Kingfish Building in Downtown San Mateo

Adding to our portfolio, we have purchased the Kingfish building, ideally located just down the street from the San Mateo Caltrain station – and our future Home Office headquarters. The 15,280 square foot building is located at the corner of South B Street and 2nd Street and has previously operated as a restaurant. Prometheus Real Estate Group plans to reposition the entire second floor, a portion of the ground floor, and the entire basement into office space.  The majority of the ground floor will remain for retail and restaurant use. The iconic location and distinctive design make it a unique building, which serves to distinguish it long-term in desirability to office and retail tenants. Originally built by Carl and Cuna Merkel who retained the architectural firm of Thomas Edwards & H. Schary, the building was known as the House of Merkel. The firm has been credited with the distinctive Art Deco design. You can view additional history here.
