Keep Busy at Home: Play Tourist

Our home life may feel like our entire life (for now, anyway), but fret not. With technology at our fingertips, we can still explore beyond our living room – no passport required.

Here are some ways to play international tourist from your couch:

See World-Famous Monuments
Wander the streets of Budapest, stroll along a Venice canal, or explore a Natural History Museum – all from the comfort of your couch. These international webcams showcase monuments and town squares from around the world, in real time. See some world-famous sites, without the crowds.

Here are some of our favorites:

The Facebook group View From My Window offers live, real-time looks from the windows of homes from around the world. Take in a sunset, watch the gentle flow of a river, or observe a bustling cityscape.

Need a tour guide in your virtual dream vacation? Famous European travelers like Rick Steves are offering many of their travel videos for free online.

Learn the Language
Before you embark on your travels, learn the language. Right now, there are free learning language apps and classes for every language imaginable. Duolingo and Babbel apps still offer free language learning services, and services like Rosetta Stone are offering three free months, even if you’re not a student.

Other language tools that are currently free include:

Indulge Your Taste Buds
Want to turn your digital traveling into a full experience? Host an immersive experience by turning on your favorite destination and cooking up some cuisine from the region. Pair a television trip to Tuscany with some Bolognese and red wine. Visit Paris with cheese, baguettes, and pain au chocolat.
