Bloody Black Currant Punch:
For a decidedly shadowy take on your Halloween fete, try this dark drink from delish
. You can’t get much more Halloween-y with your libations than a punch that’s gothy, bubbly and extra dark.
1 ¼ C. brandy
¼ C. sugar
4 C. black currant nectar
1 ½ C. cold seltzer
Directions: Stir brandy and sugar in a large bowl. Add nectar; stir to combine. Refrigerate until cold, about 1 hour. Punch can be refrigerated in an airtight container up to three days. Add seltzer just before serving.
La Llorena (The Weeping Woman):
If you’ve never heard the Hispanic folklore of La Llorena, then you’ve got to add it to your canon of crazy stories this Halloween. This inspired Halloween martini
is eerie, sour and watery white just like that scary lady of legend. Along with the recipe, you’ll find more about her tale, which makes a great party conversation starter.
3 oz. brandy
1 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. fresh lemon juice
1 ½ tbsp. granulated sugar
Dash of bitters
Dry ice (optional)
Directions: Fill a cocktail shaker with crushed ice, brandy, juices and sugar. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds, and strain into a cocktail glass. Top with a few drops of bitters and add some dry ice for spooky effect. Be careful when handling that stuff, though. Be sure to let it melt before trying to drink it. You don’t want to burn any lips off.
Black Grape and Chile Margarita:
Here’s a way to get your sugar and spice for everything nice this Halloween. This purple-hued margarita
can be made ahead of time or in custom batches. Even if you don’t make it with liquor, it still packs a punch with a firey kick.
1 tsp. chile powder
1 tsp. kosher salt
1 tsp. sugar
2 oz. fresh lime juice
4 oz. Concord grape juice
3 oz. tequila
1 ½ oz. triple sec
Small seeded serrano chile, thinly sliced grapes and lime for garnish (if desired)
Directions: In a small bowl, mix the chile powder with salt and sugar. Swipe the outer rim of two rocks glasses with a lime wedge and dip the rims in the chile salt to coat. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add the grape juice, tequila, lime juice, triple sec and 4 slices of Serrano and shake well. Carefully fill the salt-rimmed glasses with ice. Strain the drink into the glasses, garnish and serve.
