5 Sangria Recipes to Try This Summer

When it comes to summer cocktails, it doesn’t get better than some ice cold sangria by the pool. And when you factor in #NationalTequilaDay, you have a match made in heaven.  A simple drink to make ahead of time, sangria is the perfect combination of light and fruity.

Whether you’re looking for something traditional or a little more on the wild side, here are five sangria recipes to try before Labor Day.

Traditional Red Sangria

A good sangria is simple, sweet, dry, and boozy. You can’t go wrong with a traditional red recipe. Not only is it refreshing on a hot summer day, it is the perfect accompaniment to most of your favorite summer dishes. Seafood? Check. Burgers? Check. Patatas bravas? Absolutely. This recipe uses apples, oranges, and brown sugar for a traditional feel.

White Sangria with Mango

The key to this sangria is letting the fruit marinate in the wine overnight. Choose a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio and add your sliced mango, strawberries, raspberries, and oranges. Not only is this sangria the perfect balance of light, fruity, and refreshing, it looks beautiful out by the pool. Don’t discard the fruit after. They make the perfect sweet (and boozy) treat post-cocktail.

Blueberry Lemonade Sangria

Tart and refreshing, this lemonade sangria is the perfect BYOB for an outdoor concert. Select your white wine of choice (Trader Joe’s has excellent wines on hand, perfect for sangria) and add in two cups of frozen blueberries. Remember to refrigerate for at least three hours, so the flavors have time to sink into the wine. Garnish with mint!

Sweet Tea Sangria

Perfect for front porch or balcony sippin’, this sweet tea sangria adds a touch of the Deep South. Start with a dry white wine and add your choice of sweet tea. Peaches and raspberries are the perfect fruit accompaniment. Serve in mason jars with striped paper straws or garnish with mint. It’s up to you whether you adopt the accent.

Piña Colada Sangria

Bring a little taste of coastal life to your next pool party with this colada sangria. Seltzer gives the drink a little bit of bubbly and slices of fresh pineapple add some sweetness. The hidden ingredient? Coconut rum for a smooth finish.
